• The CARTaGENE team will call upon the population of Québec. For phase A, 20,000 individuals aged 40-69 years will be randomly selected from the index of the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) (Quebec Health Insurance Board). Selected candidates may accept or refuse to participate. Since the selection process will be random, the health status of the selected candidates will vary. The sample represents approximativly 1% of this age group in the selected regions of Québec.
• Consenting persons will answer a health questionnaire and meet with a nurse, who will take various physical measurements and blood and urine samples. Data and samples will be gathered through largely non invasive measures (weight, height, blood pressure, bone density, etc.) and carried out in a health care facility. The required time is approximately two and a half hours.
