SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
  • To harmonize the questionnaires parametres, measurements and tests with other large biobanks of P3G consortium and validate this harmonization in Quebec.
  • To help the researchers understand the involvement of genetics fators, environmental and life habits in common diseases such as heart diseases, diabetes and cancer. This increased understanding of the determinants of health and illness could result in the long term by improving prevention, diagnostis and treatment of diseases. It could also assist in the allocation of resources affected to health care.
  • To contribute to the international harmonization of tools and research methods for studies in population genomics. This will help to increase the statistical power and reliability of these studies.
  • To develop a governance framework for addressing the ethical and social issues, to ensure that participants of these studies are protected and that society benefits from research in population genomics.
  • To establish the Quebec and Canada as leaders in the emerging field of population genomics and public health, a new discipline that has emerged as a result of decoding the human genome.
