The CARTaGENE Project is under the responsibility of the Université de Montréal. Deeply rooted in Montreal and dedicated to its international mission, the Université de Montréal is one of the top universities in the French-speaking world. Founded in 1878, the Université de Montréal today has 13 faculties and together with its two affiliated schools, HEC Montréal and École Polytechnique, constitutes the largest centre of higher education and research in Quebec, the second largest in Canada, and one of the major centres in North America. It brings together 2,500 professors and researchers, accommodates more than 56,000 students, offers some 650 programs at all academic levels, and awards about 10,000 degrees each year. Genome Canada finances the CARTaGENE Project. Since its creation, Genome Canada has invested in long-term partnerships with numerous provincial and private-sector institutions at home and abroad, thereby ensuring for Canadian researchers in genomics and proteomics a place among the world leaders in this field. Génome Québec was founded in the year 2000 in order to help researchers from Quebec to reach a world class level of excellence in genomics and proteomics (the science studying cellular tissue proteins). It brings industry, the government, universities, hospitals, research centers and the public together around research projects while promoting the study of the ethical, legal and social questions that are raised. Génome Québec funds projects in the areas of human health, forestry, agriculture, the fishing industry, the environment and bioinformatics. Public Population Project in Genomics (P3G) P3G is a Montreal-based non-profit international consortium founded in 2003, and dedicated to fostering collaboration between researchers and projects in the field of population genomics. It was conceived and developed by Professor Bartha Maria Knoppers of the Université de Montréal and Dr. Thomas Hudson of the University of Toronto (formerly of McGill University), along with a number of other internationally respected collaborators. An organization with members from 25 countries, P3G will harmonize and coordinate a number of large-scale projects in genetic epidemiology undertaken around the world. The Génome Québec and Centre hospitalier affilié universitaire régional de Chicoutimi Biobank is a world-class high technology infrastructure dedicated to managing biological and non-biological samples with the potential to influence or interact with human health. It can especially support projects such as CARTaGENE, ECOGENE-21 and biodiversity initiatives, and it facilitates the integration of “omic sciences” in a continuum of projects ranging from populations to communities. Deployed in the Saguenay-Lac Saint-Jean in partnership with the Centre hospitalier affilié universitaire régional de Chicoutimi through its affiliation with the Université de Montréal, the Biobank operates as a platform for Génome Québec. Watch video Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow Project (CPTP) The Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC) recently financed the creation of a research platform – the Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow Project (CPTP). This platform includes a biobank & database of 300 000 participants (between 35-69 years old) to be followed over time. CARTaGENE is proud to represent the Quebec cohort in the platform along with the other provincial cohorts: BC Generation Project, Alberta Tomorrow Project, Ontario Health Study and PATH (Atlantic Provinces).
